TRX Training for fitness and sport in Barcelona
TRX training has been the talk of many gyms for several years now, and its popularity shows no signs of abating. It’s one of my chosen methods of training which I do a few times a week, and I really love it.
TRX training or suspension training is a form of resistance training that includes bodyweight in which a variety of multi-planar, compound exercise movements can be performed. The aim here is to develop strength, balance, flexibility, and joint stability simultaneously. Suspension training develops physical strength while using functional movements and dynamic positions which is why I like it so much, and why I believe it complements my Pilates training.
TRX (total resistance training) was developed by Randy Hetrick, a former Navy Seal in the 1990’s, but it was marketed until 2005. Since then there have been developments and imitations and an increasing number of related exercise routines. But ignoring all the gimmicks and band-wagon jumping, the basic principle still holds true for me.
But TRX is not necessarily for everyone. I would argue that it can develop core body strength, as well as joint and muscular stability which can reduce the chance of injury. But it is also true that weaker individuals may not have the core stability or joint integrity to use the system safely and effectively. So as with most exercise systems, a program should be developed to suit an individual’s needs and situation.
For me the best TRX workout is outside, and here in Barcelona everyone wants to be outside as much as possible. This is of course one of the great benefits of this equipment as all you need is a secure point to fix your TRX to, be it a tree, frame or any other suitable structure. This makes it great to use over the park or by the beach, so it is a favourite when I am training Barcelona Bienestar clients here in Barcelona for their fitness or sport holidays. It is ideal when adapting training programs for specific sports such as snowboarding and surfing. It is also great to use the TRX to train on the Barcelona beach or up the Pyranees mountains in the snow so the training feels even more relevant to the particular sport.
